- Start with a map. Show where Greece, Rome and their colonies were so students can place every story and event.
- Tell the story first. Myths and epics work best told aloud before you analyse them.
- Use images of real objects. Vases, statues and ruins help students see how the ancient world looked.
- Link past and present. Point out words, ideas and buildings today that come from Greece and Rome.
- Compare sources. Ask what a myth or historian tells us and how reliable it is.
- Finish with a big question. Close with a question such as what makes a hero, and let students argue their view.
